Santa L Gall

Santa L. Gall, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at home surrounded by the love of her family.

Born June 20, 1947, in Pottsville, she was a graduate of Pottsville High School in 1965 and was a lifelong resident of Schuylkill County.

She worked for a numbers of years at the Wearever Pencil Factory and then at the highlight of her working days, the infant room of the Schuylkill County Child Development, where she retired in 2004.

“Sandy” was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Ciccanti; grandparents, James and Sara Hess; parents, Pasquale and Laura Gerace; and in-laws, Dorothy and George Gall.

She was fiercely loyal to her family.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Gall; daughters, Laura McHugh and her husband, Daniel, of Pine Grove, Lisa Grove and her husband, Lawrence, of Pottsville, and Leslie Ciccanti and her late husband, Michael, of Saint Clair. She absolutely adored her seven grandchildren, Amanda Cannon, Stephen Grove, Brennan McHugh, Kaitlyn (McHugh) Drescher (Sam), Ashley Grove and Rayven and Michael Ciccanti III. There was nothing that would give her more joy than spending time with her two great-granddaughters, Isabella Seasock and Adelynn James. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sandy was a lover of all animals. She especially adored her bichon frise, Saige, and her lop-eared rabbit, Mario.

Sandy had many great qualities but she will be remembered most for her sense of humor, compassion for others and her strength in the face of adversity.

She enjoyed shopping (she had an affinity for nice jewelry), car rides, going out to eat and watching Judge Judy. Nothing made her happier than family tradition; painting Easter eggs, carving pumpkins, giving Christmas gifts to others, buying the grandkids their valentines to pass out in school, buying them school clothes and supplies. When it was your birthday, you could always count on your first call of the day being Mom – singing “Happy Birthday” to you. For a number of years, she and her husband, John, would dress up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the Country Squire diner. She was truly happiest in giving to others.

She loved her God, her country and her Italian heritage. She was a true patriot that will be missed beyond words. We find great comfort knowing that she is in the loving hands of her Lord and is surrounded by those who have gone before her.

The family would like to specially thank Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg and Advanta Hospice Care for their compassion and respectful treatment.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, from Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St., Saint Clair, PA 17970, with Pastor Chris Rothharpt officiating. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate, in her name, to either the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 862, Carnegie, PA 15106, or Fresh Start Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 96, Friedensburg, PA 17933.

It breaks my heart to lose Sandy. We were more like brother and sister than cousins. How we enjoyed listening to music in the backyard and visiting in the summer with Sandy and Josie! I’ll miss joining her and her family at Heisler’s and sharing Christmas gifts over Christmas week. I’m so lucky to have good memories of Sandy and her family.

I knew Sandy my whole life and never knew her name was really Santa. The name did fit. She was a kind, caring, generous person who will be missed by all who knew her.
