Jones, HerbertHerbert  D. Jones, 84, of 159 Mill Creek Ave, Pottsville, died Sunday at home surrounded by his family

 

Born in Quarry, VA May 9, 1931, He was a son of the late John "Abe" and Mary Ellen (Edmondson) Jones

 

Herbert who is called Don by his sisters and Jonsey by everyone else proudly served his country from 1949 until he retired in 1971.  In August of 1950 he was send to Korea with company K32 Infantry 7th Division.  In 1961 he was send back to Korea for 16 months, followed by service time in Vietnam in March of 1967. 

 

Upon retirement from military service he worked at both the Good Samaritan Hospital and  Nativity BVM High School as Head Chef.

 

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers John and James Jones; sister Mildred Kestner and a grandson baby boy Tobin.

 

Surviving are his wife of 63 years Frances Ann (Moore) Jones, 5 daughters Mary McSurdy and her husband Jack of Emmaus; Debra Herring and her husband Wayne of  Schuylkill Haven; Michelle Hosler and her husband Charles of Brockton; Ann Marie Miller and her husband Mike of St. Clair; Colleen Adams and her husband James of Pottsville; 2 sons James Jones of Edensburg; Donald Jones and his wife Michele of Barnesville; 3 sisters Becky Caywood;   Lois Bleuvus? and, Christine Pierce, all of Saltville. 20 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews;  He will be greatly missed by all

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday January 6 from St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair with Msgr. William F. Glosser  officiating.  Friends may call from 9:00AM-10:30 AM at the  Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Center for Special Learning 2075 W. Norwegian St. Pottsville PA.  Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 1:30PM Thursday

Rest in Peace Uncle.  Thank you for your lifetime of service to America and your local community.  I will always remember you in your uniform, I was very impressed.
