William “Gomer” Rhoades

William “Gomer” Rhoades, 96, of, Frackville, passed away Thursday August 24, 2023 at Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He grew up in Frackville, the only son of the late Harry and Bessie (Dillman) Rhoades. 

He was a graduate of Frackville High School.

Gomer was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal.  

Gomer retired as an electrician from Silcon Power Control and has been serving as the President of the Frackville Municipal Authority for the past 12 Years.

He was a life member of the Frackville Elks lodge #1533 and spent most of his weekends at the Elks watching sports and solving the world’s problems with his fellow members. He was a talented craftsman and would spend many hours in his workshop making everything from wooden cabinets to Children’s toys.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Jean Zozlov and Charolette Rhoades.  Gomer is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Jean (Berger) Rhoades; two children Kim Kaplafka and her husband John of Pottstown; Bill Rhoades and his wife Kathy of Palmyra. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Bryan Kaplafka and Sydney Rhoades.  

Graveside service with military honors will be 11:30 AM on Thursday August 31, 2023 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to Zion Lutheran Church 31 South Broad Mountain Ave. Frackville, PA 17931.
