Peter Chuba , 90, of Germanville, died Sunday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. Born in Mahanoy Plane, May 20, 1922, He was a son of the late Alec and Anna (Baran) Chuba. Peter served his country in the US Army in WWII. He received the French “Legion of Honor” Medal in 2006 for his exemplary service as a paratrooper with the 463rd PFA, which helped liberate France. He served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne and remained active in those organizations over the last few decades. He retired from the former Pottsville Hospital & Warne Clinicfor 30 Years at age 83 He was a member of St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville, and the 82nd Airborne Northeast Division. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Harry, John, Steve Chuba; 2 sisters Mary Pucher, Anne Sussman. Surviving are his wife of 63 years Ann (Comorosky) Chuba; 2 daughters JoAnn Chuba of New York; Andrea Polukis and her husband Eugene of Newark, DE; 2 granddaughters Stephanie and Gina Polukis; 3 sisters Stelle Lee, Claire Suppanz, and Helen Dopkin. Nieces and Nephews; Funeral Services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM from the Nice- Hart Funeral Home, 9 N. Lehigh Ave. Frackville. Further services will continue at 10:00 AM from St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Main St., Maizeville with The Rev. Roman Pitula officiating. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the funeral home . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, St. John The Baptist Memorial Fund, 45 S. 2nd St. Frackville, PA 17931.
