Michael Kulka, 90, a lifelong resident of Saint Clair, passed away peacefully Thursday at home.

Born in Saint Clair, Sept. 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Anna Studeny and Nicholas Kulka.

He was a graduate of Saint Clair High School.

Michael served in the Army during WWII where he was a proud member of the 3rd Infantry Division. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.

He worked for Aetna Steel until its closure and retired in 1989 from Fort Indiantown Gap, where he worked as a project estimator.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, and AMVETS Post 142, Saint Clair. In his younger years, Mike enjoyed playing second base and earned the nickname "secy."

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Olga Kutsick Kulka; two brothers, Peter and John Kulka.

Mike was fiercely independent, choosing to live on his own after his wife passed in 2013. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, country music and visits to the local casinos where he hoped to "win the big one" – he never won, but always enjoyed himself. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family. Surviving are a daughter, Marcia Shea and her husband, John, West Chester; a son, Michael Kulka and his wife, Elaine Stashinko, Finksburg, Md.; three grandchildren, Katrina Reynolds and her husband, Brian,Victoria Shea and Elizabeth Kulka; two brothers, Nicholas Kulka and Joseph Wansovlak; many nieces and nephews. He had a special bond with his niece, Elizabeth Cremo, who visited frequently.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 105 N. Morris St., with Monsignor Myron Grabowsky officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday or 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, with Parastas being held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and with Panachina being held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St., Saint Clair, PA 17970. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Memorial Fund, 105 N. Morris St., Saint Clair.
