Margaret “Sis” Rennick

Margaret “Sis” Rennick, 91, of St. Clair, passed from this life to the next on 20 February 2024, at the Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

     Born in Glen Dower, Schuylkill County, 12 September 1932, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Kalyan) Bilansky.  She was a graduate of Cass Township High School in 1949.

     While waitressing at her grandfather’s bar, Kalyan’s on Diener’s Hill, she met her future husband Joe Rennick.  They married 17 October 1953, and enjoyed 54+ years of marriage until his passing in April 2008.  She was predeceased

by 3 brothers, Steve, Anthony, and George.  Surviving are 2 sons: Joseph Rennick of Lancaster; and David Rennick and his wife Diane of St. Clair; also granddaughter Margo Rennick of Philadelphia, brother John Bilansky and wife Diane of Sinking Springs, and dozens of nieces and nephews.

     Sis worked for years as a sewing machine operator at the St. Clair Garment and was a member of the ILGWU.  She also waitressed weekends at the St. Clair Legion, where she developed a love of the waltz, polka, czardas, and accordion music.

     An excellent cook, especially of Slovak dishes, she would be asked on countless family occasions to make a pot of halupkies.  Her other specialties include pierogies, city chicken, nut roll, ice box cookies, and apple pies made with apples from the tree in the back yard.

She was a member of St Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, the former Immaculate Conception Church RCC, both of St. Clair, and Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Minersville.

     Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday 27 February 2024 at St. Clare of Assisi RCC, 250 E. Hancock Str. St. Clair, PA 17970. Msgr. William F. Glosser will be officiating.  Friends may call from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St., St. Clair, PA 17970.

Interment will be in the Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Pottsville.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: St. Clare of Assisi Memorial Fund at the above address.
