Helen Blahosky

default-thumbHelen E. Blahosky , 95, formerly of  St. Clair, died Wednesday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

 

Born in St. Clair, September 20, 1919,  She was a daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Mroczka) Blahosky. She grew up on East Hancock Street in St. Clair and attended the local public schools graduating from St. Clair High School.

 

After graduation Helen entered St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Reading, PA where she finished her training and then returned home in 1943 to work at the Pottsville Hospital.  A year later she entered the armed forces as a Navy nurse in Portsmouth, VA serving for more than two years.  In 1946 she was discharged in Bainbridge, MD with the rank of lieutenant earning both the WWII Victory and American Theater ribbons.

 

After  the war Helen moved to New Jersey working first as a surgical nurse and later as an industrial nurse for Exxon Mobil located in Florham Park, NJ where she remained until her retirement.

 

She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair.

 

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters Katherine Brophy , Stephanine Devlin , Sophia Williams , and Frances Blahosky; as well as 2 brothers Fred and  Joseph Blahosky.

 

Surviving are 2 sisters Mary Lynagh of Reading, PA , Natalie Jeanne Becher of Vero Beach, FL a brother John of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, and thirteen nieces and nephews.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30  AM Tuesday October 28, 2014 from St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair. The Rev. Msgr. William F. Glosser will be officiating. Friends may call from 9; 00 – 9:30 AM Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Clare of Assisi Memorial Fund.  . Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
