George Peter Dodds

Dodds, GerogeGeorge Peter Dodds Sr., 92, of Pottsville, formerly of Saint Clair, was called to the arms of the Lord on Sunday morning, April 3rd.  Mr. Dodds was born, grew up, and spent the majority of his life in Saint Clair, retiring to Orwigsburg, and finally to Luther Ridge Assisted Living in 2013.  Mr. Dodds was the son of the late Robert and Marguerite (McCarthy) Dodds of St. Clair.  He was married for 68 years and devoted to his "best girl" Martha (Nahas) Dodds. He leaves behind four children, Robert and his wife Paula in Orwigsburg, Dennis and his wife Donna in Valpariso, Indiana, Maureen Nicholas and her husband Peter in Leesport, and George and his wife Federica, in Knoxville, Tennessee, seven loving grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mildred Lambert, Joan Liddle and Margie Etien.  George loved the Lord, his family and his country, serving in World War II with the 795th Anti-Aircraft Battalion of the US First Army.  His unit saw action in France, Luxemborg, Belgium and Germany earning  four battle stars.  For many years he was an active member of the Hook and Ladder Fire Company in St. Clair and a member of the the St. Clair  American Legion Post 719.  A heavy equipment operator at the former Schuylkill Products in Cressona, he served for several decades as President of its local 480 AFL-CIO Union.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 9th at St. Clare of Assisi in Saint Clair. The Rev. Msg. William Glosser will be officiating. Friends and relatives are welcome to meet with the family in the church to express condolences and memories of George at  10:00 AM, prior to services.  In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, 250 E. Hancock Street, St. Clair, Pennsylvania 17970. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Peach Mt. Road, Pottsville.
