Edith Galambos

Edith Galambos, 89, of Hamburg, PA passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, at United Methodist Homes Wesley Village Campus, Pittston, PA. Born on October 10, 1932, in Wadesville, PA, she was the former Edith Anna Padfield, the second of three daughters of Enoch and Helen Harrison Padfield.

Raised in St. Clair, Edith graduated from St. Clair High School in 1950 as the valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Columbia Union College, (now Washington Adventist University), Takoma Park, Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. While in college Edith was employed as the head student librarian and also served as president of the dormitory girls’ club. On graduating in 1954, she was honored to be listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Edith taught in the Norristown/Phoenixville school districts for six years before moving to the Hamburg area in 1968 where she taught the primary grades at Blue Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School until her retirement in 1995. Besides her love of working with children, Edith was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing. Over the years she authored a children’s book as well as a variety of magazine articles and poems. For many years she also enjoyed editing her church’s monthly newsletter.

In 2004, Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, George Galambos of Phoenixville, PA. She is survived by two daughters and their families: Joy and Terry Reber, Catonsville, MD and Lisa and Robert Shotwell, Courtdale, PA; two grandchildren, Andrew (and Ashley) Inman, Old Forge, PA and Tiffany (and Stephen) Vasilenko, Olyphant, PA; and one great-grandchild, Archer Nicholas Inman. Edith was preceded in death by her sisters Evelyn Rice, St. Clair, and Janice Bader, Grass Valley, CA.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family, followed by burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in St. Clair, with Pastor Alex DuBee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to a memorial fund in Edith’s name at the Hamburg Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 22 Willow Road, Hamburg, PA 19526.

A Celebration of Life Service for Edith will be announced at a later date.
