Catherine M. (Oler) Washuta

Catherine M. (Oler) Washuta, 99, of Lower Mill Creek, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Darkwater, March 12, 1918, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Barna) Oler.

 

Prior to her marriage she worked in various factories locally and in Philadelphia.

 

She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church,  St. Clair; St. Nicholas Ladies Sodality and the St. Clair Women's Club.

 

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years Steve Washuta on May 10, 1983; and infant daughter Catherine Ann in 1952; 5 brothers Michael, Peter, John, Joseph and George; 4 sisters Mary Pingor, Anna Slivinsky, Vera Slivinsky,  and Elizabeth Oler.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

 

Surviving are 2 daughters, Susan Miller and her husband Hugh of Pottsville; Carol Witman and her husband Dennis of Mechanicsburg;  son Stephen Washuta and his wife Shelley of Modesto, CA; 7 Grandchildren; Bradley, Stephany, Ashley, Todd, Kyle Gwendolin and Aaron; 6 Great Grandchildren Caitlin, Aidan, Ryan, Erica, Calvin, and Makenna,   Nieces and Nephews.

Catherine's stories will forever be told, her love of family will never die. No one who knew her would speak negatively of her,  because she was so kind.  She was a wonderful cook and baker- a "life lesson" came with each batch of her famous French Fries.  

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Catherine excelled at bowling, tennis and softball in her younger years and remained an avid fan of the Phillies, Penn State, Duke, Tennis and all her grandchildren's teams.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:30 AM Monday from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 105 North Morris Street  St. Clair, PA 17970. The Very Rev. Myron Grabowski and Archpriest Daniel Troyan will be officiating. . Friends may call from 8:30 AM – 9:45 AM Monday with Parastas at 9:45 AM  at the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home 110 N. Second St. St. Clair.  Due to Catherine's love for children, In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas School Fund 515 N. Front St. Minersville, PA 17954.   Burial will be at the convenience of the family  in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
