Joseph L. "Captain"  Makauskas , 84, of Morea Rd., Frackville, died Sunday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St., Pottsville.

Born in Frackville, December 23, 1929, He was a son of the late Kazmir and Mary (Alaburda) Makauskas.

He was a 1947graduate of Frackville High School.

Joseph worked as an Explosives Tech at Anfo Inc, and  Austin Powder Co., retiring from Post Precision.

He was a member of St. John The Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville,; Goodwill Hose Company, Frackville and Teamsters Union Local 830.

He enjoyed camping in Tioga County and woodworking in his basement workshop.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Elvera (Jaskierski) Makauskas in 1970; s son Charles Makauskas in 2007; a step-son Lewis Morgan Jr. in 1979; 4 sisters Adele Umani Aldona Anfuso, Blanche Ulucay and Connie.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years Joanne (Cavanaugh) Morgan Makauskas; a son Theodore and his wife Janice of Willow Street.; 2 Grandchildren Erik and Daniel Makauskas; a sister Alice Buchman of Shenandoah; Nieces and Nephews including  James "Flaggy" Buchman and his wife Janet who shared their "Golden" Sadie with the Captain.  In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hillside SPCA PO Box 233 Pottsville PA 17901 or St. John the Baptist Polish National Church  Memorial fund 2nd & Oak Sts. Frackville, PA 17931  Services will be private at the convenience of the family with interment at St. John Polish National Cemetery, Frackville.
