Nancy L. McMurtrie

November 26, 2016

nancy-mcmurtrie-2016Nancy Lee McMurtrie, beloved wife of John “Mac” McMurtrie, died peacefully at home on November 26, 2016 surrounded by her family. She and the love of her life, Mac, met at age 15 and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in March.

“Nancy the Ring Pop Lady” loved working with children and retired from Saint Clair Area Elementary School after 32 years of service as a teacher’s aide. During her years there, Nancy was a champion of children and known for her holiday sweaters and decorative pins. She was honored to receive St. Clair Area’s Friend of Education Award.

Nancy had a generous spirit and was a friend to all. She was comfortable talking to anyone and had no problem relating family anecdotes to total strangers, much to her children’s chagrin. She cherished her friendships, and they lasted a lifetime.

She was a life-long member of Saint Clare of Assisi Church (formerly Saint Mary’s) and a graduate of Saint Clair High School. Nancy was an accomplished baker whose pie crusts and holiday cut-out cookies were legendary. She also had a green thumb, especially with her beautiful roses.

Nancy is survived by her devoted children: Cindy, Cheri and her husband Dennis Sninsky, and Kevin and his wife Kristine Hillerud. She is also survived by her “absolutely perfect” grandchildren: Kieran, Kevin, Lily, Jack, Benjamin, and Patrick, who were the apples of her eye. Also surviving her are her many nieces, nephews and godchildren whom she cherished.

She was predeceased by her parents, Clara and Anthony Sirock, and her sisters, Dolores Wessner and Patricia Houseknecht.

Nancy is already being missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saint Clare of Assisi Church, 250 E. Hancock Street, Saint Clair, on Wednesday, November 30, at 11am. Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday evening, November 29, from 6pm – 8pm and Wednesday from 9:30am- 10:30 am at the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second Street, Saint Clair.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Saint Clare of Assisi Church.
