Dr. Hower was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was also a teacher and a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. As one of his students at EST I enjoyed every moment I sat in his classes — and nearly took every one he offered. He made church history come alive for me and gave me an area of interest to pursue for the rest of my life.

I wish I could have been at his service today to show my respects and my appreciation for the impact he’s had on my life. I am all the richer because of the opportunity I had to know and be taught by Dr. Hower.

Dr. Hower served Christ and His Church and humanity admirably. In the classroom, in Chapel, and numerous “in-between” times, he modeled in deed and word, consistently soft-spoken and evenly-tempered, a gracious God-honoring life.
Personally, he faithfully and frequently visited at the retirement village — to family (such as his father) and friends (such as Margaret Mauer, widow of Dr. Ken Mauer, his mentor, as I recall) — and to lead Chapel Services.
In addition, Dr. Hower, among his appointed pastorates, served interim pastorates at my home congregation and at a congregation which I later served.
The value of Church History in my life has been wonderfully enriched and encouraged by Dr. Hower. — SDG/tfc
